Address data for multiple geographic locations and flexible licensing options
Through Ambiental’s various partnerships with leading address data providers, we have the ability to provide address data for multiple geographic locations, with flexible licensing options. We can offer full UK address data coverage, and have the ability to provide address data for: Mainland Great Britain, Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man.
Ambiental can therefore provide the constituent address data licence components for all your address data requirements in the UK and Ireland. Coupled with our market leading automated data analytics and our unique approach to buffering/ building outlines, we are able to provide innovative and intuitive data on addressing and other perils information, all provided in a convenient way.
Great Britain
Great Britain benefits from the Ordnance Survey’s highly accurate AddressBase product which can supply more than 38 million live or historic addresses. Within AddressBase a unique property reference number (UPRN) is assigned to each property for its lifetime. This consistent point of reference ensures that the property can be identified even if the name or the address of the property has changed. Each property within AddressBase is also assigned a set of geographic coordinates, which allow the risks associated with the spatial location to be accounted for.
AddressBase can be licensed as one of three product variants, depending on the level of detail and information that you require: AddressBase, AddressBase Plus and AddressBase Premium. A summary of each product is outlined below:

AddressBase
- Approximately 27 million records
- Provides a unique property reference number for each property

AddressBase Plus includes all the data within AddressBase with some additional benefits…
- Approximately 34 million records
- The Additional records provide information for subdivided properties and objects without postal addresses such as facilities used by utility companies.
- Includes addresses provided by local authorities, meaning new addresses are in the dataset sooner than in AddressBase Standard
AddressBase Premium builds upon AddressBase Plus to provide further insights…
- Approximately 40 million records.
- Historic addresses are provided, meaning legacy addresses can be found.
- Alternative addresses are provided, where for example certain properties can be referenced in several different ways such as terraced houses with both a number and a name.
- Newly built and under construction properties also appear in AddressBase Premium.
Formats available:
Ambiental can deliver the data in multiple different formats to fit your requirements. This could take the form of the ‘raw’/ unassembled data from OS, in a ready to use address file in csv or Geodatabase format. We can also provide a cleansed and formatted copy of the data with additional perils and exposure information appended. Finally, we have the ability to licence and serve the address data through a transactional licence, delivered via Ambiental’s FloodScore Online or FloodScore API.
Northern Ireland
Northern Ireland address data is provided by the Pointer Database. This dataset includes a unique identifier, the coordinates of the property and the address for each property. The attributes included in this dataset allow for the product to be aligned with the Ordnance Survey’s Great Britain AddressBase product. The Pointer address database consists of the following information:
- Unique identifier for each property
- Approximately 1 million records
- Provides live addresses for all of Northern Ireland
Formats available: Ambiental can provide the Pointer data directly from the data provider in its ‘raw’ format., We can also provide the data in a processed and ready to use address file delivered as a .csv file or Geodatabase format. We also have the ability to licence and serve the address data through a transactional licence, delivered via Ambiental’s FloodScore Online or FloodScore API.
Eircode address database building points for a region in the Republic of Ireland.
Republic of Ireland
Ambiental can also license address data for the Republic of Ireland through the Eircode or GeoDirectory dataset. Both address datasets include a unique ‘Eircode’ reference for each property within Ireland. A high level specification of the data is outlined below:
- Eircode identifier for each property
- More than 2 million records
- Data can be supplied both as the whole database or transactionally.
Formats available: Ambiental can provide the Eircode or GeoDirectory data directly in its ‘raw’ format. We can also provide the data in a processed and ready to use address file delivered as a .csv file or Geodatabase format. Our licence agreements, also enable access to the Republic of Ireland address data via a transactional licence, delivered via Ambiental’s FloodScore API system.
Channel Islands
Through a unique partnership we can provide address data for properties within Guernsey and Jersey. This dataset provides each property with a unique property identifier, a coordinate point and an address. The formatting of this dataset allows for this data to be appended to the mainland GB AddressBase and the Pointer datasets.
Formats available: The data can be provided as a complete address database file in .csv or Geodatabase file or access can be gained through Ambiental’s FloodScore Online or API services.
Isle of Man
Address information for the Isle of Man, includes a unique property identifier, the geographic coordinates of a property and an address. This dataset is also formatted in a way the it can align with mainland GB AddressBase and the Northern Ireland address datasets. The data can be licensed either transactionally or as a full database.
Formats available: The data can be provided as a complete address database file in .csv or Geodatabase file or access can be gained through Ambiental’s FloodScore Online or API services.
